this is me

Creativity is the core of my being; it drives me to perfection, dictates my hobbies, pushed me into my job choices, and won’t leave me alone at night long enough to fall asleep at a decent hour! I’m a photographer, an artist, a bad musician, a writer, a web creator, a knitter, and more. I’m always dabbling in something new just to try it out, but my main passions are photography, music and writing, and I currently combine all three as a freelance writer for three on-line Rock magazines The Portal Magazine , DLTSP, and Rockstar Weekly, for whom I conduct interviews with bands, write concert and CD reviews, and take concert photos.

My current favorite bands/music include:

  • U2 (always and forever U2)
  • Collective Soul – I’ve just re-discovered them, and they put out a new album last year.. they’re working on another right now (excited?  yes!)
  • Mobile – Canadian band from Quebec who won a Juno in 2007 for New Artist of the Year – Tales of the City is their newest and I can’t get enough of it, they’re touring and working on their next album right now
  • Seether -harder edge but gritty lyrics that emotionally move me
  • Tom Cochrane – I’m just discovering Tom at this late stage in my life too, thanks to a new album two years which I’m still listening to weekly
  • Pete Levin -the only Jazz I like so far
  • Daniel Lanois (U2 producer but a great musician himself with many albums out)
  • Bob Lanois
  • Marotta/Griesgraber – Jerry and Tom – ambient drum and chapman stick makes for a killer mix
  • State of Shock – in the same vein as most new rock bands, but they have style and charm, as well as a good head on their collective shoulders – and no egos.

I’m always on the look out for new stuff that moves me; moves me enough to make me want to buy it and play it often. A friend of mine says this about music:

“I’m constantly buying records, which I love. I would feel strange if I didn’t. I’d feel left out, or something. There’s good music out there – you just have to open yourself up to it and invite it in, and it’ll show up. That’s what I do.”

I’m trying, my friend, I’m trying. And it’s showing up.
